This summer I will be participating in a research internship with Professor Ballenger, the head of the business administration department at Washington and Lee University. Check back here for updates on my work.
Personal Statement
This summer, I hope to gain experience and knowledge about business information systems through my work with Professor Ballenger. By performing statistical analysis on the over 3,100 student records stored in the IT Literacy database, I will help Professor Ballenger recognize trends and find new ways to improve the system as a whole. The IT Literacy program was created with the intent to prepare William School students for the modern business world. As technology continuously changes, the IT Literacy program must keep up in order to achieve its purpose. An important goal this summer will be to significantly upgrade the IT Literacy to a technologically current state. In order to achieve this goal and others this summer, I will gain in-depth knowledge of the MySQL database and of the ColdFusion web application platform. Over my winter break, I began to learn how to form SQL queries and how to interact with a database. Using ColdFusion, I will learn how to enhance existing programs while also developing new ones. With my new skills and my experience working with Professor Ballenger, I will not only be able to improve the INTR-201 experience for William School students, I will also make myself more appealing in the modern workforce.
